TRUANCY

Truancy reading starts November 4th.  Read a chapter nightly. So for week 1 – Nov. 4-7, you would have read 4 chapters. As you read a chapter nightly, complete the journal entry.  We will discuss this week in class and I will give you a student model so that you may know what the quality of work I am expecting. They are worth 48 points weekly





Week 1

For each journal entry, you will summarize the chapter, respond to the engaging question, and address the FOCUS reading task.

· Monday:

Summarize chapter 1             5-7 sentences

Engaging Question: What does the Chapter 1 subheading (The Bell) reveal? 1-2 sentences

Focus Reading: What does the author reveal in the EXPOSITION? Ensure that these points are addressed in your response - discuss main character, background information, setting, and hint at the conflict.  5 -7sentences






· Tuesday:

Summarize chapter 2             5-7 sentences

Engaging Question: What does the Chapter 2 subheading (Testing Patience) give insight into? 1-2 sentences

Focus Reading: Discuss how does Tack feel about school? Ensure to provide evidence to support your response.             5 -7sentences


· Wednesday:

Summarize chapter 3             5-7 sentences

Engaging Question: What does the Chapter 3 subheading (Truancy) give insight into?
 1-2 sentences

Focus Reading:  Discuss the impact the Mayor, Enforcer, and Zyid will have on Tack? Support your reasoning with evidence from the text.           5 -7sentences


· Thursday:

Summarize chapter 4            5-7 sentences

Engaging Question: What does the Chapter 4 subheading (A Rebellious Child) give insight into?
 1-2 sentences

Focus Reading:  Discuss the impact Umasi has on Tack? Support your thoughts with evidence from the text.     5 -7sentences





Rubric for Journal Entries: 5-7 sentences for each summary; 1-2 sentences for each engaging question; 5-7 sentences for each FOCUS point. To attain maximum points for each entry you MUST follow this format.

12 points earned daily; 48 points earned weekly.
