Quarter 2 - Week 1


Quarter 2 - Week 1 Skill Focus: Text Features and Main Idea in Nonfiction Texts
Class 1A  Homework


Literature Textbook Readings
  1. Complete Text Features and Main Idea readings, Unit 8 in the Literature textbook.
  2. Write at least five sentences per page, summarizing what you learned from the informational reading. Again, you will need to write a summary for each page - six separate summaries.


Vocabulary

 Review the following vocabulary words from the Lady or the Tiger. Complete the following steps for each word.

1)    Emanated    

2)    Retribution  

3)    Impartial

4)    Aesthetic

5)    Moiety  

6)      Epithalamic  

Step -1 - cite the context clues used to guess the meaning of the word.

Step -2 - look the word up on Dictionary.com and write the phonetic spelling of the word. Practice its pronunciation.

Step -3 evaluate, was you guessed meaning correct - answer yes or no. Realign your thinking, if "no."

Step -4 state the correct meaning of the word as verified by dictionary.com.

 Both assignments are due Monday, October 28th.  I will also collect the Poetic Justice write-up on that date.

                              Week 8 Preview: October 7-11


                              Week 8 in preview: October 7-11

                              Students, I am still conferencing with small groups regarding your Quiz 1 on Author’s Purpose & Perspective.  We should wrap up by the end of the week.
                              UPDATES
                              Quarter 1 ends October 21st. Students , you will take your Quarter 1 post assessment - CGA (Curriculum Guide Assessment) on Thursday, October 17th.
                              Students, beginning October 28th we will begin reading Truancy, so bring your book to class
                              In-Class Assignments:

                              SKILL
                              Students will continue to demonstrate they can identify an author's tone (feelings, attitude, beliefs) in  texts.  Reminder: In fiction, the author's tone is reflected through the words, phrases, and details spoken by the narrator, of the characters, or by the characters themselves. The author's tone is also reflected in the details of the setting.

                              If you are absent Monday and Tuesday, please complete  the assignment below for homework:
                              1. Literature textbook pages 682--691.
                              2. Write a half page summary of what you have learned from the reading on page 683.   (5pts)
                              3. Background Section- pg 683 - explain how the information you have read will help you  understand the setting of the story you are about to read.    (2 pts)
                              4. Complete EVERY in-margin question (even the ones without an alphabet assigned to it,  beginning on page 684--691.   (10 pts)
                              5. Page 692 - complete Comprehension questions1-8.     (8 pts)
