Students and Parents: There is HW all this week: No late work accepted!

Students and Parents,

During class I took the time to explain why late homework will NOT be accepted this week and next week.  FCAT Reading is 1 month away, and we still have more texts analysis to cover. Many of the HW assignments are designed to give students an opportunity to fully comprehend and analyze text at their own pace.  As a follow-up we will discus the reading in-class - deepen comprehension with rigorous activities and questions.

If the student does not complete the home work reading and in-margin questions prior to class discussion, he/she (1) will not have the knowledge of the text; (2) will not be able to deepen his/her understanding through the rich-discussions and activities; (3) will not be ready for the quizzes that will follow each class discussion and activity.

To ensure, students are equipped to complete each task, I have asked them to take their literature textbook home, but if they forget, I have given them the activation code to access the online book. ONLINE BOOK ACTIVATION CODE: 3767769-50.

Homework Assigned Monday/Tuesday - March 24/25

  2. Read  the poem on page 481 and answer all in-Margin questions.

Each question is worth 2 pts.  There are no half points awarded, so ensure your responses are thorough, accurate and text supported.

Make-Up Work / Scholarship Warnings/ Essay Power Point Instructions

Parents,

Students who are in jeopardy of not passing this 3rd Nine Week period received a scholarship warning and were given until March 24th to complete and turn in the late work.  I spoke to each student personally and issued  each a scholarship warning slip on Thursday and Friday (March 13/14).

Students have been instructed to refer to the blog for specific instructions on the assignment they are to complete.  All of the assignments are on the blog except the "Create a Power Point on What Makes an Effective Essay."

Here are the instructions for this 60 pt. assignment:

Create slides discussing the following points:

  1. Explain the purpose for creating a writing plan and discuss at least one that we have used in class.
  2. Explain the purpose for the elements found in an Introductory paragraph
  3. Name the elements of a Body paragraph
  4. Discuss the purpose of a Conclusion and list the elements.
  5. Explain the Difference between an Expository and Persuasive Essay
  6. Explain the Main Difference between the two in the Introductory paragraph.
Print each slide.
